Sharp Hands Gallery Fall 2020
CURATORS’ NOTES
We’re so happy to welcome you to our second show at Sharp Hands Gallery!
It’s been exciting to see and hear the positive response to our inaugural exhibit this summer in this strange 2020 world. For our fall collection, we have gathered seven of our favorite collage artists to debut their newest works. As nature and the environment shifts and changes colors (or colours!) around us, it makes sense that many of the works you’ll see in this group are inspired by the beauty and vibes of meaningful pigments.
This fantastic group of worldwide artists made work independently and completely unbeknownst of each other’s themes, but similar ideas have emerged nonetheless. Oliver Lunn (London) presents cream-colored beauties that seem both subtle and textured. Paulina Alonso (Argentina) uses cleverly folded paper as the stage for women breaking free. Laura Qevedo (Spain) masterfully balances story and composition in their bold visions. Allan Bealy (Brooklyn) presents dreamlike fragments of bridges in a style that is deeply felt and refined. Jake Kennedy (UK) of Butternut Collage fame shows us a dazzling array of styles and ideas despite a quarantine-induced limitation of materials. Emily Rowley (UK) combines classic vintage-tinted colours, playful irreverence, and hints of text to create an unexpected palette. Sabine Remy (Germany) takes her colors and brilliantly blurs them into a world of mysterious machines. Make sure to follow all of these artists on Instagram and don’t forget that these works are for sale (contact us for individual prices).
As a whole, these forty-two pieces inspire ideas and hope. The result of their creation, or even the process itself, becomes a metaphor for lockdown, as they invite the viewer to consider how we can connect from a place of isolation.
Thank you and enjoy,
