Six Collages by Svena Steinbrecher

The thing I love most about being a collagist is chasing new material. Flipping through magazines or vintage books, finding new treasures at the flea market, always on the hunt for that one image that ignites the inspiration. Maybe like a sculptor seeing something inside a piece of wood, I see potential in images. It can be the atmosphere of a photograph, or the color; sometimes it's the shape or flow of a certain part of an image, or it’s the way the shadow falls on a model’s face in a fashion magazine. Once I find the inspiration, I decontextualize the image and reconstruct it into the story I want to tell, accentuating it with needle and thread. The result is a reflection of my state of mind made of paper, glue and thread.
