Six Collages by Soo Hong

My art has been a way to free myself from strictly one identity with a certain angle. I have multiple identities which are constantly changing. Because of this, my perception of the world is open for chances and surprises. These new possibilities come together in my art when I play. Play is an essential need in all stages of life, to see without judgment and prod the soul to grow. My subjects are everything from personal experiences to perceptions of reality. I often work in a series on themes, playing with these subjects and translating them into abstract visual images. My process is nonlinear and intuitive without using primary sketches. I play with new methods and media. Creating these artworks allows me to express a playful side of myself. It is a playground that is open for everyone to play on.

Curators’ note: It is so hard to convey scale virtually, so we’re adding this additional photo of Soo’s first piece in the sequence, “Party Glitch.”
