Timeless Cohesion series by Nereida Dusten
I am interested in creating situations that lead the viewer towards a narrative with the characters. I create contrasting images from different realities and times. The image represented is torn from its original discourse and material, thus giving a new reading by integrating it into other situations. The process is an essential part of my work; the discourse begins from the search for characters.
Through collage, I seek to create stories between images and feelings of the past and the present. The act of tearing, cutting and pasting is a spontaneous experimentation with which I try new ways of exploring the found photographs, inserting them in a place where they did not previously belong so they can now become a part of it.
In "Timeless cohesion," I have created a series of female characters. I am interested in emphasizing the deconstruction of women over time. Cuts in clothing and torn, empty or painted faces allude to the breaking of imposed schemes. The works explore the past and the present of Society from a personal perspective and are a visual attempt at decoding the internal conflicts. They (the women) dialogue from various points of view and each character has their own history.
The collages are a mix of figurative and abstract elements, playing with lines and shapes and vibrant colors. The viewer is invited to imagine what each woman is representing and telling.
