Elements of the Earth by Irene Febry

Elements of the Earth is a series of collages inspired by global warming. While this issue is faced by everyone around the world, this series was developed through experiencing and observing the situation in Indonesia; whereby the islands are at risk of sinking, natural disasters are plenty, and garbage pollution is something we have grown accustomed to. The works illustrate a balance in earth, water, air, and fire in an organic shape, inspired by the shapes found in nature. It reflects a belief that this balance is what we must strive to restore, and an idealized harmony that I wish or dream of having.

Irene Febry is an Indonesian artist based in Bali. She graduated with a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore, in 2007. She has participated in various group exhibitions in Jakarta, Bali, and Singapore. She had her first solo exhibition in 2021, and won a Silver award, Emerging Artist category, from UOB Painting of the Year competition in the same year. Although she mainly works with paper, she also enjoys working with various materials such as paint, color pencils, strings, and found objects in nature. She enjoys collaborating with other people from different backgrounds and has created a few community art projects.
