Blossoming by Daria Zoria
The "Blossoming" collage series combines abstraction and graphics.
I can't even imagine a world without colors. In this series, I suggest to combine abstract figures and images with a pattern that represents wildlife. This combination is beautiful when it is organic and light, sometimes transparent, despite the aggression of the world that makes us close our eyes when life is interrupted by pain and suffering.
Nature is stronger than human, and human cruelty destroys not someone else, it destroys all of us. We must survive by understanding this simple truth.
I was born in 1981 in a family of military doctors. After frequently moving from place to place due to my father's job, in 1991 I stayed with my family to live in Ukraine in Sloviansk, Donetsk region. After graduating from law university, I was working in Donetsk but after the war in Donbass, I moved to Kyiv.
All these events have greatly affected my seeing of world and its true values.
I have always been interested in art, but it has never been as close to me as it is now. Starting to paint on my own, I sought to expand my views and knowledge. As a result, in 2019, I graduated from the School of Contemporary Art in Kyiv and now study at the School of Composition. In the past few years, I have completed some online educational courses of art.
Exploring art through collage, in July 2021 my works were selected for the First Festival of Contemporary Collage in Ukraine, «CUTOUT Festival», during which my collages were presented in the RA Gallery (Kyiv), one of the exhibitions is now stored in the gallery's collection. Since August 2021, I have been a member of the first Ukraine collage studio CUTOUT (Kyiv). Collage opened up a freedom for me to research and transform.
In my works I pay a lot of attention to color and texture. I use paper, paints, liners, threads and other materials. I like to add graphics into my works as well—it's like a graphic whisper. You seem to hear, but to hear, you need to listen, or in this case - take a closer look. Whether it's abstraction or working with specific images, I'm fascinated by the process of creating a collage. I can never predict what the end result will be like but it will definitely be honest and 100% emotion that I want to convey to the viewer.
